OLIVEIRA, Maria Olivia de Matos  e  ORNELLAS, Maria de Lourdes Soares. Media and education: procedural interface in social representations theory. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.42, pp.163-172. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2014/jul.dezv23n42014.

This article discusses the relationship between media and educationat the interface with the social representations, and it debates the role of different media in the formation of contemporary society, as well as criticizes the social impacts of globalization and technology. The study also analyzes broadcast messages organized by social actors, based on cognitive, affective, ideological, social, historical and cultural criteria from a Social Representation viewpoint, conceived of as commonsense knowledge and formed by the daily life of the subject. Taking as theoretical base researchers who are reference in the two fields of study presented here as, in social representation, MOSCOVICI (1976; 1978); JODELET (2009; JOVCHELOVITCH (2004); ALVES - MAZZOTTI (1997); SÁ (1994), and in media, (THOMPSON, 2007; 2011); McLUHAN (2005); MARTÍN-BARBERO (2001); DIZARD (2000), the authors deepen the debate about the limits and potentialities of the means of mass communication, their ability to manipulate public opinion, bringing back the subject who expresses a practical knowledge of assimilation, learning and interpretation of the world, which is produced collectively in social practice and in interpersonal relationships. It is an approach which is now at the center of an interdisciplinary debate because it attempts to name and establish relationships between symbolic constructions and the social reality. On the other hand, the authors, who have been studying this theme, both in study groups and in publications, intend to plant sedes that can germinate, thus opening new horizons and perspectives of analysis of listening to the media and its expertise for future researchers and scholars.
