Abstract

ALCANTARA, Marcos Angelus Miranda de  and  CARLOS, Erenildo João. The debate surrounding the institutionalism of youth and adult education (yae) in the context of popular education. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.43, pp.211-221. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2015/jan.jun.v24n43.017.

This text presents some systematized "findings" from the Master's thesis entitled "O Enunciado da Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) no Curso de Pedagogia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba/campus I" ("The Proposition of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) in the Pedagogical Course at the Federal University of Paraíba/Campus I"). Theoretically and methodologically, it draws upon the Archaeological Analysis of Discourse, based on the theories of Michel Foucault (2008). This research seeks to explain how the relations between YAE and educational institutions are formed via the discourses that take place during the pedagogical training that occurs at the aforementioned university. The work emphasizes the presence of a discourse that transits within the dichotomy that exists between the current model of schooling - at least since the beginning of modern times - and YAE, which is strongly influenced by a political trajectory of social struggles and a militant identity forged by the paradigm of Popular Education. As such, the discourse examined proposes a synthesis between the educational institution and YAE, with the aim of respecting the right to education for youths and adults who, due to life's circumstances, never had access to schooling.

Keywords : Youth and Adult Education; Educational Institution; Popular Education.
