In order to understand the concept of Online Education, one must address the antithetical terms that surround it, the various terms that are used as synonyms rather than subcategories, the implied pedagogies and the epistemologies that support them. In this paper, I present a theoretical background to and pedagogy of Online Collaborative Learning which allows the development of Augmented Human Intelligence in direct opposition to the threat represented by the growth of Artificial Intelligence and its use in education. In order to do so, I present the concept of Online Education and its historical, theoretical, epistemological and technological context and its pedagogical perspectives to channel the power of Online Education to augment human agency and collective wisdom.
