PROMETI, Daniela  y  CASTRO JUNIOR, Gláucio. Distance Education and the Teaching of Sign Language (LIBRAS): the case of the University of Brasilia (UnB). Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.44, pp.161-178. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2015/jul.dez.v24n44.0012.

To contribute to the topic announced in the title of this article, the authors propose a discussion of considerations pertaining to the teaching of Brazilian sign language (Libras), in accordance with Decree No. 5626, December 22, 2005. Reflections upon this theme are motivated by the compulsory nature of Libras courses in degree programs, including those offered through distance education. The purpose of this article is to present a brief account of the experience of teaching Libras through a distance education program offered by the University of Brasilia (UnB). It seeks to identify key considerations that will help to consolidate Libras instruction using this modality, given the fact that its significance as a teaching method for sign language is growing and becoming an important tool in promoting the contributions of distance education to the teaching of Libras in Brazil.

Palabras clave : Distance Education; Brazilian Sign Language; Degree Courses.
