This paper presents research findings that inquired about gender relations in the context of affirmative action policy adopted for blacks by Brazilian universities. From a study indicating a disadvantage of black women with the implementation of this policy, at UFBA, the research examined the participation of black women in high social prestige courses in this institution, within two moments: 2006 and 2010. It was sought further to understand what happens in the daily lives of women who entered there. The results indicate that the growth of women's participation in these courses is unequally between racial segments. Confirming the study that gave rise to the research, the black women, although had obtained a significant increase in their participation, they form the contingent of lower expression in high prestige courses, even in those where women were predominant presence, as Dentistry and Psychology. We conclude that black women are still at a disadvantage compared to brown women, and even more so when compared to the white ones. It is also noticed that their daily life becomes extremely perverse through the actions of the gender, race and class markers, demanding an extra effort from these students in order to overcome prejudice and discrimination present in their experience, particularly in the university environment.
