PASSEGGI, Maria da Conceição; ROCHA, Simone Maria da  e  CONTI, Luciane De. Living with illness: narratives by children with chronic disease. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.46, pp.45-57. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.2015/01047043v25n462016045.

What do children with chronic disease say about the ways they live with prolonged and painful treatments? What do they reveal, in narratives, about their capacity to reflect, about lessons they've learned and resilience, when facing illness? This article discusses results of research developed from an (auto)biographical perspective with children in two situations: hospitalized and in clinics undergoing chemotherapy treatments. In this article, we describe the procedures involved in dialoguing with children as an important part of research ethics, noting that a playful environment enables their spontaneity and ability to construct their own narrative. The analysis reveals, on the one hand, the methodological framework used to understand the ways in which children live with chronic illness from very young ages, and on the other hand, contrarily to the "patient" picture, unveils their learning experiences in the daily 'living with' treatments that allow us to conclude about their capacity for reflection, understanding and potentials for action in which stands up in terms of cooperation and resistance.
