Abstract

POBLETE LAGOS, Carlos. Music teacher education in Chile: an historical approach from three Universities. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.48, pp.97-109. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.v26.n48.3597.

The current work describes a landscape of the historical evolution of music teacher education programs in Chile, based on the development of music pedagogy in the University of Chile, University of Concepción, and University of La Serena, three of the institutions with large trajectory in music teacher education in Chile. Sources used in this work included historical documents, and semi structured interviews to professors and scholars whom worked on these institutions. Analysis was made using qualitative content analysis, and creation of categories. Findings show us a common origin among the educational proposals, followed by different patterns of evolution, according to the local characteristics of each institution. Also, an historical long view allows us to observe regularities between universities, regarding the impact of changes in the external context within institutions and their training proposals.

Keywords : Music Education; Teacher Education; Chilean Universities.
