Abstract

COITINHO, Gercton Bernardo; MIRANDA, Maria Geralda de  and  FRIEDE, Reis. SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM IN ILHA GRANDE-RJ. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2018, vol.27, n.52, pp.101-121.  Epub July 02, 2019. ISSN 0104-7043.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2018.v27.n52.p101-121.

Tourism has been developing at an accelerated pace in Ilha Grande since the 1980s, inducing economic, social and environmental impacts. Through bibliographic and documentary research, associated with structured interviews with the local inhabitants, a first analysis of these impacts was made focusing on socio-environmental aspects. It can be observed that there is a mismatch between the increasing number of tourists and the evolution of infrastructure to support such an influx without causing negative environmental impacts, as well as insipient environmental education and low associative level of the islanders, and also the occurrence of cultural shocks arising from the interaction between the places and tourists due to their differences. It is positive to generate a process that empowers the islanders, making them protagonists of this process that involves the development and maintenance of infrastructure, effective environmental education and training of the population in order to allow interaction with other cultures without loss of authenticity.
