This article presents a discussion on educational processes of children that spend their infancies in the prison context in the company of their mothers who are serving a sentence of deprivation of liberty. The study, justified by the invisibility of these children to the society and to the penitenciary system itself, was carried out in the child-mother unit of a female prison in the state of Paraná. With a qualitative research method, the data was collected through participant observation, narrative interviews, and document review, having, as theoretical basis, authors such as Rousseau (2014), Goffman (2005), Kant (2007, 2013), Comparato (2010), among others. The analysis show that the educational processes experienced in confinement can contemplate the specificities of child development and human dignity, however, the implementation of the law of alternative measures to imprisonment for pregnant women and/or mothers of young children under their responsibility is necessary.
