This article discusses the projects for the future of young people in conflict with the law, based on the results of a survey of teenagers who served a semi-detention sentence in a small town in the state of Minas Gerais. Data were collected by means of document reviews, participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 16 teenagers, ages 13 to 18. In their multiple dimensions, the experiences constituted a sociocultural context of vulnerability and social relations marked by violations of social rights and the process of dehumanization. The experiences of the socio-educational semi-detention measure were perceived as challenging, marked by conflicts with adults and peers, and seen by participants as constant trials. The relation with the project for the future has revealed itself as a distant dimension, being overcome by the adherence to the present time.
