SILVA, Márcia Alves da  e  PINHEIRO, Renata Kabke. GENDER, RACE AND CLASS INTERSECTIONALITY IN THE TEXTBOOKS OF EJA. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.54, pp.43-58.  Epub 10-Jul-2019. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2019.v28.n54.p43-58.

This paper presents some analyses pertaining to a larger research work of ours. In this study, we focus on some textbooks which are part of a series aimed at young people and adults in the final years of primary school education and were approved by the National Plan for Didactic Books (PNLD) for the years of 2014, 2015 and 2016. First, we present a brief history of the didactic programs in Brazil and then, in a second moment, we pinpoint the approach taken in the books under analysis when it comes to gender. Our aim was to problematize the gender representations displayed in the analyzed textbooks, taking into account the intersectionality of gender, race and social class. From our observations, it was possible to notice that despite some progress in the fight against gender, race and class discrimination, and advances in the legislation on the subject as well as in the policy regarding the evaluation of textbooks, conservative and discriminatory approaches still persist - even if in a rather subtle way -, which demonstrates the naturalization of social inequalities.
