This paper analysis how the secondary teaching expansion happened in Santa Catarina State from 1942 (Capanema Reform) to 1961 (LDB), considering the private and public teaching system. Therefore, it is adopted Pierre Bourdieu perspective that conceives the social space formed by fields and subfields, constituted by laws, games and specific capitals. Thus, the secondary teaching is considered a subfield that integrates the Catarinense educational field. It is registered that, from 1942 to 1961, the Catarinense secondary teaching had an unusual expansion due to the increasing Catholic Schools, the Lutheran Educational Foundations, offering the Junior High School and High School courses by the State Government in Normal Schools and Educational Institutes. The Secondary Teaching subfield in Santa Catarina, although, was highlighted by privatization mastered by Catholic School system.
