Abstract

CASTRO, Cesar Augusto; FURTADO, Luciana Nathalia Morais  and  CASTELLANOS, Samuel Luís Velásquez. THE SPEECHES OF STUDENTS OF THE LICEU MARANHENSE IN THE FIRST REPUBLIC (1907-1930). Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.59, pp.144-161.  Epub July 19, 2021. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2020.v29.n59.p144-161.

It presents the speeches of high school students in the student newspapers from Maranhão in the period from 1907 to 1930 in order to identify and analyze the school dynamics and the representations about the daily life of secondary education. To this end, this study is based on the mapping and analysis of following newspapers: O Progresso (1907); Brazil (1907); The Left-Hander (1912-1914); Excelsior (1914); The Student (1915); Labaro (1921); Alma Nova (1929) and the Young Blood (1930). The study of the periodic educational press made it possible to understand ideas about the country's development, the creation of schools and the implementation of methods in secondary public instruction in Maranhão. It was found that the newspapers written by the students of the Liceu were configured as an important vehicle of identity and resistance between the ideal and the concrete experienced by the students of that institution.
