Abstract

SOUSA, Pâmella de; TRISTAO, Isabela  and  SENA, Fabiana. FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE FORMATION OF FEMALE YOUTH: PRACTICES IN THE ESCOLA NORMAL ESTADUAL IN CAMPINA GRANDE (1970). Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.63, pp.65-79.  Epub Mar 09, 2022. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2021.v30.n63.p65-79.

This article aims to give visibility to the main educational practices implemented at the Escola Normal Estadual de Campina Grande (ENECG). We developed some considerations about the feminization process of the teaching profession, in Paraíba, and in other Brazilian states. We present documentary references to discuss the opening and consolidation of ENECG as a notably institutionalized space for women. And we highlight some pictures that expose the way in which teachers in training should dress and show themselves following the educational precepts in force at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. Based on the investigation undertaken in the selected images, as well as specific excerpts from the newspaper Diário da Borborema, linked to a specific and complementary bibliography of the subject in question, we found that the ENECG students were inserted in a context of regulation, control and hierarchy of bodies (FOUCAULT, 2014b). Such aspects can be observed in behavioral practices imposed on these students, when they participate in masses and ceremonies, in addition to the use of standardized uniforms.
