GORETE NETO, Maria. REFLECTION ON THE PORTUGUESE SPOKEN BY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE: RESISTANCE AND REFRAMING. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.67, pp.214-231.  Epub 13-Ene-2023. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2022.v31.n67.p214-231.

Indigenous people’s presence in the universities has been contributing to the knowledge about cultures, epistemology, and indigenous language, including Portuguese. There is few research about Portuguese spoken by indigenous communities, and it needs to be improved. To contribute to this discussion, this paper discusses some indigenous Portuguese characteristics. Also, two master’s degree dissertation written by indigenous women candidates (BOMFIM, 2012; CORREA XAKRIABÁ, 2018) are analyzed to demonstrate how indigenous Portuguese appears in academic texts. The analysis is based on qualitative research principles. The research results show that indigenous Portuguese can appear even in academic texts such as a master’s dissertation. It is argued that indigenous Portuguese should be understood in the indigenous point of view and it’s suggested that the universities should promote indigenous languages.

Palabras clave : indigenous Portuguese; indigenous languages; academic language; identities.
