Abstract

CHAVEZ, Aní Dario Hernandes  and  FARIA, Ivani Ferreira de. MUXES IN THE INTERCULTURALITY AND TERRITORIALITY OF THE ZAPOTEC COMMUNITY IN OAXACA-MEXICO. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.67, pp.288-288.  Epub Jan 13, 2023. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2022.v31.n67.p288-307.

This study sought to understand the territoriality of the Muxes and how intercultural policies can enhance their identity in the Zapotec community, Oaxaca, Mexico. In this investigation, fieldwork and recognition of the territory were carried out in the limits of Juchitán and Santo Domingo de Tehuantepec, with the help of the muxes to record testimonies of what their daily life is like in this region with participating methodologies respecting their cosmologies, fundamental for the promoting autonomy. The muxes respond to a role established by society, by the work that some continue to play, by their body and homoerotic desire that has a specific social function in the relations of domination of men. The interrelation of men, women and muxes for the cultural, social and economic sustenance of Juchitán shows how there is more than one fixed and linear gender history, without this resulting in the absence of relations of domination.
