Abstract

CORDEIRO, Alberto Alan de Sousa. INTERCULTURALITY AND POPULAR CULTURE DEBATING FOLKLORIZATION WITHIN SCHOOL EDUCATION. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.67, pp.308-324.  Epub Jan 13, 2023. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2022.v31.n67.p308-324.

In this article we discuss the historical processes and intellectual production that contributed to the marginalization of popular culture within the school space. Then, we present how the intercultural perspectives of education have helped in the construction of pedagogical practices that value cultural diversity, opening space for the knowledge and forms of sociability present in popular cultures. The text was built from an extensive bibliographic research that mapped different contributions of cultural theory and the interface between school and culture. We conclude that certain cultural practices are aproached, even today, in a picturesque and stereotyped way within the “folkloric” schedule of schools. However, according to Candau (2013), the interculturality recognizes the right to diversity and fights against forms of discrimination and social inequality, promoting dialogic and egalitarian relationships between people and groups belonging to different cultural universes.

Keywords : popular culture; folklore; intercultural education.
