The paper presents an intrinsic case study on the course “Arte de Contar História” carried out at a Municipal Center for Cultural Education in Araucária, state of Paraná, Brazil. Four participants were selected, including the teacher and three students, aged between 7 and 11 years. The general objective of the study was to understand how the internal resources of the children and the teacher were touched by the experience of learning/teaching the craft of storytelling. Three experiences that enabled the formation of children storytellers are described, recalling the stories that addressed difficult topics such as death, the condition of women in society and racism, which. The main theoretical reflections are the establishment of playful performance, the symbiotic process between those who narrate a story and those who listen to it, the role of the child who in the exercise of telling and listening to stories, builds knowledge, feeds imagination, and develops creativity, and on the benefits of the horizontality of the relationship between children and adults who become more conscious authors of their life stories. As a result, the research showed that the exchange of knowledge between teacher and student storytellers contributed to the establishment of performance and formation of a narrator community.
