Abstract

ARRUDA, Jalusa Silva de; FIGUEIREDO, Otto Vinicius Agra  and  SANTOS, Edmar Ferreira. “UNSPOKEN RULE”: RELIGIOUS RACISM INSIDE SCHOOLS IN SALVADOR AND RECÔNCAVO BAIANO. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.69, pp.106-124.  Epub Aug 17, 2023. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2023.v32.n69.p106-124.

The article is an offshoot of research carried out in Salvador and nine municipalities of the Recôncavo Baiano, which aimed to identify perceptions and meanings about racism, sexism and religious intolerance, especially practiced against children, adolescents and young people. At this moment, the objective is to analyze the perception of acts and practices identified as religious intolerance in the school environment, since the mention of the school as a locus of this form of violence was recurrent. For this, religious racism is considered an analytical category, given that, in Brazil, discrimination and violence practiced against religious groups are predominantly directed at religions of African origin. The data indicate that religious intolerance tends to be associated with bullying and perpetrated through acts that reveal institutionalized religious racism at school, as well as the absence of an anti-racist pedagogical political project.

Keywords : Religious racism; Bullying; School; Anti-racist education.
