The purpose of this manuscript is to address Integral Education, from the perspective of struggles for the democratization of school education in Brazil, based on precepts contained in the Federal Constitution of 1988 - mainly the objective of national education in relation to the full development of the person, based on a bibliographical analysis. For this, it addresses aspects of the historical contribution of Anísio Teixeira, Darcy Ribeiro, Paulo Freire and Maria Nilde Mascellani for the construction of a universal, secular and public school, with integral human formation. Highlights the relationship between education and democracy and recovers the recent memory of public policies, especially the More Education Program and the New More Education Program explaining a horizon of disputes that concern not only the work of school institutions but the project of society itself.
