The article contributes to the understanding of the teaching work in the context of the current educational policy for full-time high school. The objective is to expose the educational policy adopted in the state of Paraíba and reflect on its implementation process, the pedagogical and administrative model of schools and privatization policies in its context. The methodological process was based on the analysis of empirical data, collected through a survey and focus groups with teachers who work in full-time high schools. The data were analyzed based on the following categories: workload, teacher evaluation, relationship with school management, teacher autonomy, and salary and career. The theoretical discussion highlighted the process of restructuring of the teaching profession, prompted by new modes of regulation, which through the New Public Management and other instruments of public action have been disseminated internationally, setting a global agenda for education. The results indicate that the Comprehensive Education Program for High School converges with the international agenda for education, marked by mechanisms of privatization of education, with accountability and rewarding policies, and that the teaching profession is impacted by work overload, expansion and demands of pedagogical and administrative materials, instability of permanence in school, linking the autonomy of teachers to the results of students in external evaluations, and dissatisfaction with the remuneration and career plan.
