Supported by an exhaustive bibliographical review, specially French, the author confronts approaches of several school subjects on learning processes and on the use of reading and writing, in order to construct a wide panorama of problems, hypotheses, interpretarians and polemics focused today in these fields of research. Throughout the article the author establishes counterpoints between research data and changes which have occurred in social and school practices, pointing out some problems not sufficiently investigated in this area.
