The text analyzes and demolishes the realist notion of "popular language" showing how this idea originates from applying mythical categories. The analysis is made by applying a general model identifying speech production as a consequence of the interrelation between a linguistic habit (which varies according to sex, generation, position and social and ethnic origin) and a market, which can be a dominant one or a free one reserved for the dominated.
