Abstract

CUNHA, Luiz Antônio. Society, State and education: Annotations on Rousseau, Bonald and Saint-Simon. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1996, n.01, pp.50-66. ISSN 1413-2478.

In this text the works of three social philosophers, forerunners of Sociology. Rousseau, Bonald and Saint-Simon, are reviewed. In order to highlight Saint-Siman's ideas, a work of Julio Veme, only lately edited, is also analyzed. In each of these authors the text brings forth their general ideas, connecting them with positions related to educational issues, calling special attention to one which continues in existence: the distinction between public and private education. The text concludes showing the ambiguity with which the equation identifying public with state education is used, at least with regard to those for whom education is destined.
