The labor force profile is identified in selected branches of industry - metalworkers, electro-mechanics, mechanics and transportation material - and takes studies carried out in Rio Grande do Sul as reference. Different employment characteristics are considered as regards the effects of the incorporation of microelectronic automation equipment, of new management principles and techniques within the work process. These are essential elements of competitive strategies in the companies.
