The examination of dissertations and theses defended in the Post Graduate Programs in Education from 1980 to 1995 raises issues that are discussed in the light of production of knowledge regarding youth themes. An analysis is made as to how the field of studies in Education has been theoretically and conceptually constructing the youth theme as an object of investigation. It also analyzes its methods in approaching the issue at hand, its principal thematic cuts and, wherever, possible, its relation with historic processes in recent years that give visibility to this segment of Brazilian society.
