The study is a result of research with youth who frequent an elementary night school in a periphery district of Salvador. The objective is to try to understand the relations that they establish with school: work, the family, leisure and consumerism and how these relations construct their identities. By means of new referentials, the analysis indicates new forms of understanding the presence of youth in night schools and, at the same time, questions the predominant position of work in the relationship that they establish with the school and with society at large.
