This article analyzes the crisis and mutation of cultural references among youth from the perspective of their expectations and attitudes towards work. The analysis privileges this dimension because the cultural model of an industrial society is characterized by focusing on the work ethic. It questions the forms which dissociate the cultural model of work as well as the emerging new guidelines related to it. It examines youth's representation and attitude with regard to unemployment. From that viewpoint it demonstrates how different experiences and representations of work and unemployment are socially different.
