Abstract

ESPANYA, Mercè  and  FLECHA, Ramón. Basil Bernstein's new contributions. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1998, n.07, pp.82-88. ISSN 1413-2478.

In this interview, Basil Bernstein expounds on his new contributions elaborated after having received criticism on his Code theory. He explains the contents of the fifth volume, Class, codes and control and also explains concepts such as segmented illiteracy as well as vertical and horizontal discourse. A clear reordering of his theory towards a more communicative perspective is observed when he refers to the latter. At the end of the interview, he recognizes parallelism between his recent book and Jürgen Habermas. He a/so comments the concept of ideal pedagogical action.
