Abstract

KENSKI, Vani Moreira. New technologies: assessing space and time and their impacts on teachers' work. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1998, n.08, pp.58-71. ISSN 1413-2478.

The text discusses the changes which have occurred in the traditional conceptions of time and space due to the expanded social use of new electronic technology in communication and education and impacts of this on teachers' work. It seeks to initially identify the meaning of "new technologies" and the changes brought about in daily living. Supported by Pierre Lévy's ideas, it characterizes diverse "technological times" that exist in "oral, written and digital' societies. Using the metaphors on knowledge (the tree and the rhizome) presented in Deleuze and Guattari, it then reflects upon the new forms of teaching and learning. As to teachers' practice, the text present the new formation demands on teachers and the changes in their performance in the classroom in new pedagogical space and time.
