Resumen

SCHERER-WARREN, Ilse. Movements on the scene: ... and where are the theories?. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1998, n.09, pp.16-29. ISSN 1413-2478.

At the end of this millennium various collective actions, both reactive and in resistance to the new world order, are casting themselves on the public scene, expressing diverse conflicts and utopias. Observers call attention to the new forms in which social actors relate, construct their identities and their collective ideologies. Questions are raised as to the updating of explanatory theories of the social movements within this context of a globalised world. Resorting to the contributions of philosophical and sociological frameworks and in an attempt to stimulate the debate, this text proposes to recover themes and categories for analysis, relevant to understanding this phenomena, for the development of contemporary theory. Accepting the idea that theoretical constructions are not neutral with regard to human values, but reflect world concepts and forms of social engagement, the article proposes to indicate an analytical direction to conceive a transformation that promotes social justice, democracy and citizenship.
