Abstract

POLETTINI, Altair F. F.. Teachers' change and development: the case of Sara. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1998, n.09, pp.88-98. ISSN 1413-2478.

This article is about a special type of pressure, the pressure of a school (institution)'s principal to implement the ideas and emphases of the pedagogical material related to a new mathematics curriculum and how this influenced the thought, practice and individual development of an elementary school teacher, Sara. The pedagogical material Atividades matemáticas was “the innovation" to be implemented in the state of São Paulo in the 1980s. Life history related to the teaching of Mathematics was used as a research methodology, emphasising Sara's perceptions of significant changes that occurred with her. The strong points of her assertions were about her own learning of mathematics during the process of change.
