Abstract

PESSOA, Jadir de Morais. Learning and teaching in the daily life of settlers in Goiás. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1999, n.10, pp.79-89. ISSN 1413-2478.

In order to speak about education in a broader sense, as the production and transmission of knowledge, one cannot restrict the concept to meaning the school system or even an institutional system of learning when discussing it among rural settlers. Education should be understood as a direct outcome of the social movements carried out over the last twenty years, particularly those relative to occupying and settling on land. Rural settlements are social realities that demand that all communication of knowledge be considered as being produced by and as a product of this process. The role of schools in settlements should also be understood in this manner.
