Abstract

CORTESAO, Luiza  and  STOER, Stephen R.. About teacher's work: from translation to production of knowledge in the educational process. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1999, n.11, pp.33-45. ISSN 1413-2478.

After recognizing the diversity present today in the Portuguese education system and reflecting on the possible origins of the diversity in Portuguese schools, this article raises the question of the conditions needed for developing "cultural bilingualism." Recognizing that teachers' work is often primarily based a translation and transmission, the article suggests that teachers may be producers of knowledge. Such production, it is argued, depends on the healthy development of the field of pedagogical recontextualization.
