Abstract

PRETTO, Nelson. Education and technological innovation: a look at Brazilian public policies. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1999, n.11, pp.75-85. ISSN 1413-2478.

Recent major scientific and technological advances have brought great changes in their wake, thus affecting all areas of human knowledge and joining the potentialities of human beings and machines. Communications systems have taken especially significant steps ahead as a result, and we are now living in a society of generalized communication, a society linked together by networks. This paper first analyses the concept of network, especially socio-cultural and technological networks, which have become extremely important. for developing our understanding of contemporary society and its effects on the educational system. The paper then presents an analysis of the Brazilian government's steps in introducing communications and information  technology, especially computers and television, into the country's educational system.
