Abstract

BARROS, Alessandra Santana. Education for children in a pediatric infirmary: the contribution of hospital classes in the social inclusion of these students. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1999, n.12, pp.84-93. ISSN 1413-2478.

The discussion engaged upon in this article presents a new dimension to the importance of classes in hospitals as supportive to special education. The debate is put forth not only to introduce this practice to those who do not know it, but also to explain the specific nature of it as seen within the context of a hospital of diseases of the  locomotion system. It points out the importance of the role of these hospital classes as a rehabilitation process and, in this way, manifests their contribution towards making operative forms of inclusion in school of these persons with special educational needs. The article was produced as a result of a critical review of the work carried out in the pediatric ward of the Hospital Sarah/Salvador throughout 1998.
