Resumo

In this text we will address three questions that are at the center of the problems of professionalizing teaching and of teacher education over the past twenty years, in the majority of western countries: to what extent is the professional understanding of teachers effectively used in their daily work? How does this professional understanding distinguish itself {Tom university knowledge? Which relationships should exist between professional understanding and university knowledge? In order to find elements that answer these questions, we first briefly describe the social condition in which the teachers' professionalization movement develops today. We propose secondly to define an "epistemology of professional practice”. Third, we attempt to see how this definition allows the revelation of some of the most important characteristics in teaching practice. Finally, we draw some consequences from this analysis of professional practice: on teacher training programs, on training mechanisms and on the professional practices of future teachers.
