Abstract

ESPOSITO, Yara Lúcia; DAVIS, Claudia  and  NUNES, Marina Muniz Rossa. Evaluation of scholastic achievement: a model adopted by the State of São Paulo. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 2000, n.13, pp.25-53. ISSN 1413-2478.

The article describes the logic behind the evaluation model of scholastic achievement adopted by the State of São Paulo, which uses the results reached by students in the first year of intermediate school. It describes the objectives, the manner in which it is implemented and the instruments used in SA RESP (Evaluation system of scholastic achievement of the State of São Paulo). Analysis procedures used obtain three kinds of results which are described as follows: a) an estimate of the level of abilities reached by the students; b) eventual gains observed at different stages of evaluation; c) factors responsible for the differences found in scholastic achievement. The conclusion highlights the importance of evaluation in the system both for decision-making in educational policy and for the work carried out in the classroom.
