ABSTRACT This study constitutes a space for reflection and for some challenges on the education of Brazilian native Indians, with a specific focus on the current configuration of the globalised world, which with the growing use of technology, weakens the boundaries between the most diverse communities. In this sense it presents a brief discussion about the understanding of culture, from the perspective of the field of Cultural Studies, highlighting the constitution of cultures and hybrid identities. Considering the school as the legitimated space and institution for the construction and transmission of symbolic truths and values, it discusses its function and importance for the Indian communities. Thus some questions are raised as to the "truths" and "values" of the models of the necessary school proposed by non-Indians for the Indian community.
