This article begins with the consideration that it is not only cultural and school capital which is in play in the schooling process. The practices of socialization of the families involved can be in consonance or in dissonance with the logic which organizes the daily school routine, favouring or not its working. The school is a place of confrontation between different modes of divergent socialization, with its own mode of socialization - the school mode of socialization - considered as hegemonic. It analyses as the source of school difficulties of working class children tensions and contradictions between the logic of the school and the logic of the families. It discusses the confrontation between the way of exercising authority, the form of communication, the relation with time and the sense of schooling, as cases in which the logics of socialization in those two spaces are opposed. It shows that it is necessary to seek the sources of the specific difficulties of the school and of teaching in working class districts in the confrontation between popular logic and school logic.
