Abstract

CHAVES, Miriam Waidenfeld. A Escola Argentina no antigo Distrito Federal durante os anos de 1930: um torrão argentino em solo brasileiro. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.35, pp.253-267. ISSN 1413-2478.

It is correct to affirm that in the 1930s, national mainstream schools became the breeding ground for the production and dissemination of new values of modernity. This text argues that the geopolitical view of Pan Americanism was one of such values that characterized the school culture of the Argentinian School in the former capital city of Brazil. It also argues that the relationship between this school and the Argentinian nation was a relevant feature not only for that institution but also for Brazil itself. As far as methodology is concerned, a semiotic interpretation of the name of the school and an analysis of discourse on the way the students, their parents, teachers and school coordinators viewed the relationship between the school and the Argentinian nation, it reveals the discourse strategies used by such agents to construct an idealized image of the very relationship between the two countries Brazil and Argentina.

Keywords : Argentinian School; Argentinian Nation; Pan Americanism;; The 1930s.
