In their works, the philosophers of critical theory produced very important reflections on post-war capitalist society, presenting an intrinsic pedagogical potential, especially by means of Adorno's concepts of semiculture and cultural industry. This article intends to make use of these concepts to analyse critically the editorial content of the Nova Escola magazine produced by the Abril publisher. As this is a periodical of wide circulation in Brazilian public elementary schools, my analysis can help to elucidate the relation between education and the cultural industry, a reflection which becomes increasingly urgent when we consider that this relationship nowadays is conditioned by the imperatives of the neoliberal minimum state.
