CARDOSO, MARIA INÊS SILVA TEIXEIRA; BATISTA, PAULA MARIA FAZENDEIRO  y  GRACA, AMÂNDIO BRAGA SANTOS. TEACHER'S IDENTITY: CHALLENGES POSED BY GLOBALIZATION. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.65, pp.371-390. ISSN 1809-449X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S1413-24782016216520.

Globalization has triggered deep changes in the structures of contemporary societies and, simultaneously, in the expression and theorization of identity. The current article brings to discussion the challenges presented by the (re)construction of the teacher's identity, which has shifted from a non-reflexive level to a meta-level of reflexive and critical activity. This puts a strain on the continuity and unity of the identity, in both individual and collective dimensions, where the subject of social transformation can emerge from. As this is an interactive process of the (re)construction of meaning, the teacher's identity must be backed up by a communicational practice requiring critical reflexive thinking and an active intervention, which depends on the teacher's involvement and is related to professionalism and professional competence.

Palabras clave : identity; professional identity; community of practice; critical reflection.
