Abstract

ROHLING, MARCOS. DURKHEIM, RAWLS AND MORAL EDUCATION. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.71, pp.150-151.  Epub Nov 08, 2017. ISSN 1809-449X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S1413-24782017227162.

The objective of this paper is to present versions of Durkheim and Rawls about moral education. For this purpose, the text is structured as follows: first, it will be discussed about the design of Durkheim’s moral education, outsourcing the basic elements of morality in the public schools of a democratic and secular society, such as L’éducation morale, evidently, relating it to his moral theory; secondly, moral education will be presented as Rawls conceives it, through training and development of a sense of justice, through three corresponding stages, as described in A theory of justice; thirdly and finally, the two theories will be contrasted, pointing to convergence as well as potential differences, indicating that the authors, although critical, mutatis mutandis, show some sympathy towards Kant, to adopt some of their ideas.

Keywords : Durkheim; Rawls; moral education; morality; sociology of moral education.
