In the panorama of challenges imposed by the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, it is still imperative to strengthen teacher training in the area of diversity pedagogy. This article describes the most relevant aspects of a didactic experience of initial teacher training based on an intercultural approach based on the study of the life story of a distinguished character of the gypsy culture, aiming at the construction of the concepts of cultural identity and interculturality, incorporating the writing of an academic essay. The results indicate that life stories are a useful tool to provide students with intercultural learning experiences favoring the knowledge and contact with other cultures while improving the formation of their intercultural competences enhancing personal and professional learning of values and meanings that promote the positive valuation of diversity.
