Abstract

COSTA, Dóris Anita Freire. A new look on singularity: understanding the writing genesis of deaf learners. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2002, vol.08, n.01, pp.75-92. ISSN 1413-6538.

This paper presents a social-linguistic contribution to the understanding of the learning-acquisition of written Portuguese by deaf children and adolescents from the first grades of elementary school. Establishing the relation between deaf writing and language genesis, we try to show the subjacent logic and richness of those written productions. Deaf writing, which in other perspectives, may seem “chaotic” and “weird” is considered to be a result of a rich process. Historical-cultural inheritance, the real context and individual experiences with the language contribute to this process.

Keywords : Deaf Writing; Social-linguistic Analysis.
