DIAS, Tárcia Regina da S.. Why one journal about special education: the beginning. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2003, vol.09, n.01, pp.01-06. ISSN 1413-6538.

This paper rescues the history and the reasons that involved the start of the publication of Special Education Brazilian Journal. Among them it is pointed: the need of scientific spreading of the articles in the area, the need of exchange among researchers and the need of showing to the scientific community the existence of great knowledge production in the area.
