Abstract

ALCANTARA, Paulo R.. Knowledge generalization: a significant issue in education research. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2003, vol.09, n.01, pp.109-128. ISSN 1413-6538.

This paper presents a brief discussion of issues in generalization research from two different methodological approaches: cognitive and behavioral perspectives.  It focuses on several critical limitations existing in the literature and problems associated to research definitions of generalization.  Furthermore, this paper examines the pros and cons of the definitions and critically reviews the research methodologies used to analyze generalization and maintenance of learned skills among students with disabilities.
