Abstract

MENDES, Enicéia G.; RODRIGUES, Olga Maria P. R.  and  CAPELLINI, Vera Lúcia M. F.. What the community wants to know about inclusive educacion. Rev. bras. educ. espec. [online]. 2003, vol.09, n.02, pp.181-194. ISSN 1413-6538.

The present paper has as a goal not only describe and analyze, but also answer the questions made by the community about deficiency, especially, inclusion of students that have special needs in the general teaching system. These questions were made by a 0800 telephone and they started from an episode of a deficient child’s exclusion from the private teaching system denounced by the mother. The questions prevailed on the legal aspects of inclusion, related to rights and duties, teacher's competence to work with these questions and the role of inclusion. The results suggest that the inclusion, although it is a procedure supported by the current law, needs some cares to be executed in practice. One of them is to make possible the reflection about notions, principles, standards, and to inform the legislation, the characteristics of disabilities, etiology and so on. These information must be achieved not only by the general community but, specifically, by the school community. There isn’t enough basic information on deficiency and this fact increases the prejudice rate, resulting in an inadequate service to this part of the population. Actually, intending to offer a specialized service, such behavior removes these people from the conviviality with others in the community.
