Abstract

The objective of this study is the experience lived by mothers of children with tetraplegic cerebral palsy. It was used as a theorical referencial the Phenomenology according to the philosopher Martin Heidegger and also the hermeneutic process to the interpretation of meaning. The phenomenological interview was done at residences, in the period from May to June 2002 with six mothers of children that are attended at Núcleo de Tratamento e Estimulação Precoce (Early Stimulation and Treatment Yard). The speeches were recorded with the approval of the participants and all the ethical procedures were respected. After the comprehension of the experience emerged meanings that were analyzed by the focus of the phenomenology through the Martin Heidegger’s concepts in his work "Being and Time". The thematic units were denominated as: being-mother on the unveil of care and on beingwith.
